The illuminator and contour help you highlight the shape of your face, highlighting the cheekbones and sharpening your round face. Many times, in daily makeup, we do not use illumination or contouring. Normally we apply blusher or bronzing powder and that's it. But if we get used to defining our face, you will see that it will not take much time.
There are several ways to make the outline and lighting and the areas that you want to highlight or dissimilar will depend on the shape of your face. But the general rule is:
1) Apply light color in the areas that we want to highlight and make more prominent.
2) Apply dark color in the areas that we want to conceal.
So, for example if your face is round or you have a lot of jaw, you will apply a darker tone in this area to give the appearance of having a more refined face. As a general rule, these are the areas where we will apply each one:

But if, for example, you have a very prominent chin, we will not apply an illuminator in that area. Of course, as in everything, the case is to practice and see what suits you best.
Also, there are days when you are going faster or do not feel like doing all these steps. Apply the contour in the form of 3 at the temples, below the bone of the cheekbone and lower it to the chin on the outside, and apply the illuminator on the arch of the eyebrow and on the outside of the cheekbone.
The important thing in any case is to blend well so that you do not notice the cut and that the products you use mix well with each other.
You can do the contour and illuminator with concealers in cream, in this case we would do it before applying the makeup base, so that the products melt and diffuse better. If you use powdered products, I prefer to apply them on top of the makeup base, just like the blusher.
